Is this a start of a new life? Will you continue your old life?
Have you wondered why we wait for a new year or month, or week to start something new? A habit for example. Or a challenge.
Mostly it is because of a convenience. Easier to keep a track of the time and progress. Starting from the beginning is also a thing from our cultures. Thus a new year is a fresh start. The same with months and weeks.
However do you really need to wait for a new month to start something? Not really. You can start your new habit right away. It is easy. My year long challenge of writing every day began right in the middle of the year. It was partly desperation, partly screw-that-I’m-doing-it. I still began it at the start of the month, though.
But we like our old habits. That is true. We can’t just start a new habit or a challenge in the middle of the day. Yes we can. We need to prepare. No, well, depends on what you are doing.
The point is, you don’t need to wait for a specific time to start something new. When you decide to do something, do it. Make the necessary preparations and off you go.
New year won’t magically make your resolution stronger. You are the one who makes it stronger from within.
On the other hand, you can also let your decision to sit in the background. That way you can see if it is a spark of the moment or something deeper.
This new year is a continuation of the previous year. We like to think that entering the new year leaves everything behind in the old year. It doesn’t happen like that. Unless there is a closure. Otherwise all the things gets dragged in the new year too.
Is it a bad thing? Is it a good thing? Only marshmallow bunny knows.
2021 is here. Let’s do our best to make it awesome.
